A car fire in the State Square underground carpark on Friday morning led to a “large-scale response” involving 14 firefighters with nearby streets being shut down, NT Police said.
Police said just before 11am, an automatic fire alarm was activated after smoke was seen coming from a Toyota Land Cruiser in the basement of the carpark. A member of the public also reported the smoke.
Fourteen firefighters from the Darwin station and the Marrara station attended the scene and extinguished the vehicle, along with fire recruits undertaking training.
“A smoke extraction system was activated, and the scene had to be rehabilitated,” police said.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated but police said in was not believed to be suspicious.
“Thankfully there were no reported injuries, and the carpark was reopened to the public later in the afternoon,” police said.
