A man allegedly held a staff member against a wall with a broom during a robbery of an Alice Springs convenience store, while in an unrelated incident, a group of 10 people allegedly broke into the Alice Springs Turf Club, ransacking an office and stealing cash and alcohol, NT Police said.
Police director of communications Mark Wilton said that about 8:05pm Sunday, a male allegedly went into a Gap Rd convenience store and unsuccessfully attempted to climb over the service counter and through the security barrier.
“He subsequently kicked down a nearby door to the staff area and held a staff member against the wall using a broom, before stealing food and cigarettes from the victim and fleeing the scene,” Mr Wilton said.
“The victim was uninjured, and investigations are ongoing to locate the offender.”
Meanwhile, Mr Wilton said that about 4am Monday police received a report that a group of offenders was attempting to break into the Alice Spring Turf Club on the Stuart Highway in Kilgariff.
“An office was allegedly ransacked during the incident with damage being caused to internal walls and doors. Cash and alcohol were also confirmed stolen from the club,” he said.
“CCTV was reviewed, capturing ten offenders inside the premises who fled the scene prior to police arrival.”
There was no description of the alleged offenders given by police in either of the break-ins.
Police are asking anyone with information about both break-ins to call them on 131 444, or make an anonymous report by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to report through the Crime Stoppers website.
