The Northern Territory Police believe that missing man Patrick ‘Paddy’ Moriarty has been murdered and are now offering a $250,000 reward for anyone who can provide information to help solve the notorious case.
Mr Moriarty was last seen in Larrimah, a tiny outback town 498 km south of Darwin, at dusk on Saturday December 16, 2017 when he was leaving the Larrimah Hotel on his quad bike with his female red kelpie, Kellie.
He was 70-years-old when he disappeared.
The high-profile case captured national and international attention but has run cold.
NT Police said there has been no trace of Mr Moriarty or his dog since that day. His disappearance was reported two days after he didn’t show up in the town’s sole pub where he was a regular patron.
A comprehensive search of Paddy’s property, including Larrimah and surrounding areas failed to locate any sign of him or his dog, police said.
Mr Moriarty walked his dog each morning and attended the Larrimah Hotel each afternoon. He had a regular routine, and his disappearance was out of character, investigators said.
Detective Sergeant Matthew Allen, who has been leading the investigation for over three years, said they are still establishing what happened to Mr Moriarty.
“The investigation remains focused on establishing what happened to Paddy, where he might be and who is responsible,” he said.
“We continue to follow up information from the public and a number of people have been eliminated from our enquiries.
“Somebody knows what happened. A 70-year-old man and his dog don’t just disappear from a tiny outback town.
“Police believe Paddy has been murdered. We are offering a reward of $250,000 for information leading to the location of his body and the conviction of the person or people responsible for his death. The case will only be closed when it is solved.”
Police have placed large signs advertising the reward around Larrimah and along the Stuart Highway, in the hopes of triggering someone’s memory and starting conversations about what happened to Paddy.
“Even if you don’t think you have any useful information, the smallest clue might be just what we need to resolve this case,” Sgt Allen said.
Police described Mr Moriarty as approximately 178cm tall with black and grey hair. He was last seen wearing a singlet, dark shorts, silver watch, brown thongs, and a dark cap.
NT Police urges anyone with any information, or who was in Larrimah at the time of Mr Moriarty’s disappearance to coordinate with them and contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
