Six teens are facing charges following an apparent home invasion in Alice Springs on Friday night that involved five youths threatening occupants of a residence with weapons to steal their car keys, NT Police said, calling on the public to help identify another two suspects still on the run.
Police said the five teens approached a home on Lyndavale Drive, Larapinta, around 11:45pm Friday night “armed with blunt weapons”.
They demanded keys from the residents and took their car while fleeing the scene.
Police called in the drone unit which observed four offenders flee the vehicle somewhere nearby, who were apprehended by police.
“The vehicle eventually came to a stop where the dog operations unit arrested a further [two] offenders,” police said in a statement.
A 16-year-old female has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and bailed to appear in court on January 9.
Three 14-year-old males have been charged with aggravated robbery, damage to property and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and were remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.
Two 13-year-old males “will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act”, police said.
Police are calling for the public’s help to identify two males still at large.
“One male is described as on [sic] Aboriginal appearance, approximately 14-17 years old, wearing a green hooded jumper with ‘Champion’ written across the front of it, a green cap and long black pants,” police said in the statement.
“The second male is described as of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 12–16 years old, wearing a black hooded jumper with white writing down both sleeves, a blue cap, and long black pants with white shoes.
“Anyone with information is urged to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10112023.”
