Construction giant Sitzler has filed for an “exceptional development permit” to move ahead with its proposed 256-bed workers camp in Katherine that will only require ministerial approval to proceed, rather than undergo the typical planning process, which has irked residents who say the development will have disastrous impacts on the area.
The company has been widely criticised for operating in secrecy over its plans for the massive complex that residents say has bypassed proper planning processes while failing to adequately address their concerns.

It doesn’t matter which Department she is managing, her subordinates all have one thing in common: Stomach Ulcers!
I’m curious as to whether or not the minister has the legal right to circumvent the the traditional process of development applications and does she have the authority to negate the need for an assessment by the EPA , have the developers quantified the amount of water they will access from the aquifer and how much will be transported in, probably from Katherine Town resources. Finally, what does “ deal with waste water on site” mean ? 256 bums plus staff means A LOT of waste !
