1. You left it unattended (in a bag, on a table, in a car) and someone grabbed it.
2. You lent the bag or jacket containing it to someone who removed it without telling you.
3. It fell out of your pocket or bag and someone found it and kept it.
4. A friend or housemate moved or borrowed it for their own use and forgot to return it.
5. Someone picked the lock or otherwise entered your home and took it.
6. It was taken during a brief scuffle or while you were distracted (e.g., at a party or crowded place).
7. You placed it in a shared space (work locker, common drawer) where another person assumed it was communal and took it.
8. A partner or family member found it, disagreed with you having it, and removed or disposed of it.
9. You left it visible in a vehicle and a passerby or passenger took it.
10. It was stolen by someone who targeted you specifically (they knew you had it or noticed you using it) and retrieved it later.
11. Someone accidentally grabbed it thinking it was theirs (similar-looking item).
12. A cleaning person or service moved it and misplaced or took it.
13. It was taken by a child who didn’t understand what it was and hid it somewhere.
14. A roommate or guest packed it into luggage or a bag when leaving and didn’t realize it belonged to you.
15. You lent the item itself (not the bag) to someone for demonstration or safety and they never returned it.
16. It was confiscated by security or staff (e.g., at an event, school, or workplace) and not returned.
17. Someone found it and sold or traded it to someone else.
18. It was misplaced during travel (airport screening, bus/train storage) and removed by staff or another passenger.
19. A pet knocked it into an inaccessible spot where someone later retrieved and kept it.
20. It was removed by maintenance personnel (building staff, landlord) during repairs or inspection and not returned.
21. An attacker stole it from you when you tried to get it out of your bag in time and deploy it…. then used it on you. Consequently you were badly beaten up and couldn’t defend yourself properly because you had pepper spray in your eyes and were choking and coughing. You lost your wallet, mobile phone, keys, credit cards and jacket in the attack. You were sexually assaulted too and left lying on the side of the road. To add insult to your many injuries, as you tried to stand up again after the attack, you were sprayed again, just for fun.
As you lie in hospital the next day, you are told that your bank account has been emptied.
You thank your lucky stars that the CLP is tough on crime….only some crime mind you, not tough on those lying in racist Police officers who submitted false statutory declarations to a coronial inquiry.
At least LiaR’s husband Sam Burke and his mates are fine though, that’s something to celebrate. Gotta take the wins when you have them. Cha-ching!
It’s certainly shaping up to be an interesting end to the year.
Doesn’t look like Sportsbet are yet offering a market on when the first mis/use of OC spray will be, or on any alternative CM to Lia.
The big Finn says;
“The lack of training for the public in the safe deployment of pepper spray “
Coming from a bloke that shoots from the hip, shoots into concrete walls and over the rear berm at police firearms requalifications.
Pepper spray is easy to use, pretty much point, spray, step off line. That’s all the training required.
“As well as in the provision of necessary first aid following its use”
Why on earth would the survivor of an attack offer first aid to their attacker?
Big Finn needs to remember, not everyone is a 6ft 5” 200kg+ bloke who can handle themselves.
It’s almost as though he wants the public to have no options of self defence and continue to be injured and killed by violent offenders that roam the NT.
A personal alarm is the better option.
