NT Police are investigating the alleged assault of a senior in Alice Springs on Monday night that left the man with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain, police said.
Emergency services received a call about an injured 67-year-old man on Gap Road near the ABC office around 9:30pm Monday night when he was taken to Alice Springs Hospital in a serious condition, with injuries “consistent with a serious assault”, police said.
Assistant Commissioner Martin Dole told Mix 104.9 that the man had been identified as a 67-year-old Indigenous male who had suffered possible bleeding on the brain and a fractured skull as a result of the alleged assault.
“There is some discussion he may be medi-vacked to Adelaide,” he said. “This appears to be a serious assault.
“Any assault on people shouldn’t be tolerated and this type of violent behaviour shouldn’t be tolerated – not Alice Springs, not anywhere in the Northern Territory.”
He added that police did not have a lot of details of how or why the assault occurred and that investigators were collecting and reviewing nearby CCTV footage.
A crime scene was established an detectives are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the assault or has any dash cam footage from the area before or after 9:30pm to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference number 10134750.
