A 37-year-old Alawa man has been arrested and is facing more than a dozen charges in relation to multiple break-ins in the northern suburbs last month, including allegedly stealing a car and credit cards, NT Police said.
Police allege the man was making fraudulent credit card transactions following a number of unlawful entries in the Fannie Bay area on September 22, sparking a police investigation that led to a vehicle with stolen plates also being used for service station drive-offs and the driver being identified.
On September 27, police found the vehicle in Malak, later identifying it as a stolen vehicle from The Gardens that contained stolen property “from a number of incidents”.
The man was tracked to a residence in Alawa yesterday, where Strike Force Trident officers cordoned off the area and arrested him after fleeing the home.
“As members arrived, the man ran out the door and jumped the back fence, continuing to run towards Dripstone Road where Patrol Dogs Drax and Arnhem were waiting,” police said in a statement.
He was charged with seven counts of driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed, five counts of stealing, aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing less than a traffickable quantity of a schedule 2 drug.
He was expected to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday.
