The federal Senate has voted to hold an inquiry into Darwin’s controversial Middle Arm industrial estate – which the Albanese Government is backing with $1.5 billion – including investigating the likely and intended future uses on the site, which follows the Fyles Government earlier attempting to deny petrochemical production at the site.
The Environment and Communications Reference Committee chair and South Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young gave notice on Monday of the motion that an inquiry be held into the Middle Arm precinct, with a report to be handed down on February 28, a motion which was passed 35 to 28 on Tuesday.
So much doom and gloom! You cannot have renewable without gas and oil. They are as necessary as all the minerals being dug up in ever increasing volumes to meet demand. We don’t hear much from the greens about clearing country for mines, wind farms or solar panels.
