Chief Minister Natasha Fyles’s trip to Washington has come under scrutiny by the Opposition who called the $90,000 price tag “ridiculous”, while the local state media outlet finally released a rough breakdown of costings for what they reported was a “vital” trip.
The NT News “exclusively” revealed Ms Fyles’s trip on August 25, reporting that she was flying to Washington to meet with US Defence officials, as well as to discuss critical minerals and the Territory’s “emergency response capability”, but failed to report the cost or ask why Ms Fyles was engaging in matters that were typically handled by the Commonwealth.

The current $US/AUS exchange rate is effectively around 62 cents which must be taken into consideration when calculating costs. Not so much ‘bang for buck’ these days.
