Search for man missing near Katherine called off

The air, road and ground search for missing man Paul Baker has been called off but NT Police have said he is a competent bushman and want the community to keep giving them information on his whereabouts.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Ian Kennon said in a statement the search covered more than 180 sq km over two days with the assistance of the Tactical Response Group, local aircraft, Katherine police and NTES volunteers.

“Whilst the search has been suspended and Mr Baker has not been located in the Edith Farms area, we understand that Mr Baker is known to be a competent bushman,” he said.

“It is believed that Mr Baker often travels into other remote areas of the Northern Territory. We still call upon the community to report any information to police as we continue our investigation.”

On Saturday police said Mr Baker was last seen in Katherine on August 6, and while they believed Mr Baker returned to his property in the Edith Farms area later that day, he had not made contact with friends or family since that time.

Police thanked the community the information provided.

If anyone has any information about Mr Baker’s whereabouts, they can call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
