The NT Government is mulling changes to the mining royalty system to help mitigate the massive decline in royalty payments to the government expected when major mines close over the coming years.

ERA’s uranium mine near Jabiru ceased operations in 2021, while Gemco’s Groot Eylandt manganese mine and Rio Tinto’s bauxite mine at Grove are scheduled to be deactivated by 2030.
