Royal Darwin Hospital has declared another Code Yellow after a power outage across its mental health facilities, including the Cowdy Ward, Joan Ridley Unit and Youth Inpatient Unit, health officials announced Monday afternoon.

NT Health said the Code Yellow was necessary and would affect non-medical emergencies after a power outage occurred Sunday night. Health officials said there were “no ongoing impacts” to the broader hospital campus.

“A power outage occurred last night, essential power has been restored, and portable air conditioners are being used in affected areas,” a statement said.

“Crews are working to resolve the issue with power expected to be restored by this afternoon. ”

A “Code Yellow” is ordered when there is an internal of infrastructure emergency at RDH, but has most frequently been used after the hospital reaches its capacity for patients.

The Code Yellow will see category two and three elective surgeries cancelled and rescheduled.

It was unclear why the mental health units are “currently experiencing a power outage” while the rest of the campus is not affected.
