  1. Time to cut out some of the weightings used to evaluate tenders. The rorted scheme enabled higher priced tenders to win contracts. All weightings should purely be based on ability to do the job, past performance and the standard of the proposal .

  2. $60 million in fraud and both ALP and CLP have no issues in taking donations from these developers!!!

  3. The causes of NT economic collapse are well understood, except by the people appointed to reconstruct.

Fraud, embezzlement, unqualified and underqualified employment, grant integrity neutralisation and penetration, cronyism and nepotism and gross misspending, account for hundreds of millions of dollars lost into a vast black hole in the NT. The primary cause is oversight by public service officers who are entirely unqualified to administer such programmes yet their records of failure are rewarded by ongoing tenure; sometimes for decades.

Corruption is another cause, sometimes so deep-seated it is accepted as normal. An example is Aboriginal Housing. It has been common knowledge for at least five decades that the prime beneficiary is the NT Construction Industry. This is a cost magnifier to the taxpayer. A house in a major Aboriginal community costs $700,000 to $900,000; however, if housing is focused on homelands an Aboriginal-designed dwelling, built with top grade materials not requiring maintenance for twenty years, will cost $56,000 if built DIY, which is entirely feasible but rejected by the NT Government.

Likewise the health Budget. The $38 million awarded annually to Miwatj, largely duplicates services provided by the Nhulunbuy Family Medical Service and Gove Regional Hospital, yet it presides over dramatically increasing illness and premature deaths. The reasons are well understood but never acknowledged.

The sole criterion for employment and position appointment must be restored to ‘employment and promotion by meritocracy’. In the Aboriginal sphere, if such officers are administering projects involving traditional communities, wherein English is understood at a level not far above greeting, then that officer is flying blind if he does not speak at least one local language; which also provides the all-imperative opportunity to understand the culture. Personnel are available but always overlooked.
Meanwhile, incompetent bureaucrats fly to regions by first-class jet, for the mandatory monthly oversight by the administratively blind.

There is much, much more, but for the time being the NT Government must devote its efforts to addressing incompetence, corruption, and theft. Only then can the NT economy be reconstructed.

    • “bureaucrats fly to regions by first-class jet”
This overstated line detracts from your otherwise largely accurate assessment. QantasLink/Air north so-called business class maybe,?

      • Tony you well know that house construction by local communities has been tried many, many times and failed to deliver every time.

  4. Certainly, was the era of ” Boundless Possible “Where are the directors of these companies now? Out of NT living the high life no doubt.

  5. All eyes on the Chief Minister!
“I Know Nothing” is not a option!

I call on the new CLP MLA’s to consider a new, undamaged, unconnected to the corruption Chief Minister after the Feb 11 sittings in 2 weeks time.
How are the new CLP MLA’s going to contest their seats when the current Chief Minister is not interested in delivering Le coup de grâce on Labors chances of reelection in 3.5 years time?

  6. Spot on ‘Tony Ryan’ and ‘Jane Davies’ but as you’ll be aware your analyses are just scratching the surface.

If it wasn’t clear before it must be clear now – although my husband and I are aware that we are preaching to the converted here on NTI, as well as the NTG surveillance team reading all these comments – neither ‘big’ political party is fit for purpose. The Labor party’s decline is well documented, the CLP is currently penning its own equally corrupt and incompetent demise.

Without decent and aggressive political opponents the NT Clown Show rumbles on. The longer it continues the higher the levels of apathy in the voting population the longer the same useless idiots and their mates are awarded and keep jobs etc. Rinse and Repeat.

Asking these intellectual 4-year-olds to change is like asking a snake not to be a snake anymore.

No-one wants to hold anyone else to account because it’s a favour they can call in if and when they are replaced in any other future election.

Pigs in the trough: protecting their own (opposite political parties at the ballot box but suddenly best mates when it comes to corruption and benefiting from deliberate and genuine incompetence) while enriching yourself at the NT public’s expense.

Team Political Winners 4 Team Apathetic Losers 0

  7. Where’s the accountability? Hooray for freedom of the press for uncovering this but now it is time for politicians to bring back accountability. Heads need to roll…

  8. Graft & corruption is alive and well in the NT.

Significant levels of fund mismanagement, lies, and fraud abound.

    Little wonder we’re broke.

    • Phil Take Out A Insurance Policy by donating to the ALP and the CLP!
Is effectively a “Get Out of Jail Card”
