The Fyles Government has proposed creating an overarching recreational fisheries policy which focuses on maintaining fish numbers in some of the most popular areas, as part of a 10-year Recreational Fishing Development Plan, which also opens the possibility of new fishing areas in Kakadu National Park and cultural training for people who want to fish in Aboriginal-controlled waters.
The relatively small document, which was 16 months in the making, says it covers 2023 to 2033, despite only being released on Monday, and appears to be more of a discussion paper about creating a plan.
