A man has been charged with murder over the death of his father at a Moil home on Saturday, NT Police said.

In a statement on Monday morning NT government crime marketing manager Sita Bacher said that about 5pm on Saturday, police received reports that a 71-year-old man was unresponsive in a swimming pool at a McMillians Rd, Moil, house.

She said the man was declared dead at the scene but his exact cause of death was unknown at the time of police arrival. Police did not provide a cause of death in the statement.

A 29-year-old man, the man’s son, was arrested at the home, and a crime scene declared.

Ms Bacher said the son was charged with one count of murder on Sunday night, and will appear in Darwin Local Court today.
