Forty handpicked brushtail possums have had their return to the Red Centre celebrated, after being driven to extinction in the region in recent years.
The brushtails from Kangaroo Island were transported by ecologists with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy on a chartered flight to Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary, northwest of Alice Springs, where they will be monitored for a year to ensure they cope in their new environment.
