I’ve been living and working in Maningrida, with my wife and children since 2015, working in various roles with Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation, Malala Health and Northern Land Council.
I have also held the role of the Arafura Liaison Officer where I travelled the electorate building strong networks, identifying issues and advocating for the community.
I want to make sure the people of Arafura have a voice in the Government. I am ready to serve and deliver for Arafura.

Labor has delivered no results, no growth, no sustainability and no accountability for Aboriginal people in my region. I have lived and worked in Arnhem Land for most of my life and I am standing up because I will not let the people of Arafura be ignored any longer.”

I’ve put my hand up for this election because I can bring people together to make things better in our communities. No one is okay with the crime and social disorder that we’re seeing, and I will work with the Government to fix it. The current Member for Barkly has not shown the leadership we need, and I am here to make a difference.
We all live in the Barkly; this is where we belong, and I want it to be a place where we all feel safe, happy, and connected. I want to ensure the people of Barkly have a strong voice in the Government.

As an investigator in the Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes Command, he knows the urgent need to address this crisis that cripples the Territory and overburdens our essential services. Mark’s political donations come from the community, ensuring he represents people, not special interests.
As a community-focused independent, Mark prioritises constituents’ needs, ensuring their voices are heard in Parliament. Vote for Mark Turner for genuine, independent leadership in Blain—#PoliticsDoneDifferently, with humour, colour, and at the very least, you get an interesting member of Parliament who works rather than waving at cars, kissing babies, or cutting ribbons.

As the CLP member for Braitling, Josh wants to see the Territory fulfil its potential, and will work tirelessly to make that happen.

“I feel very lucky to have grown up in a town that provided me so many opportunities. That’s why my wife and I have made our home here”, Josh said.
“I am constantly being told by residents that crime in Alice is out of control and the Labor government is turning a blind eye.
This has gone on for too long and the current government is more concerned with the treatment of offenders rather than the impacts on victims, our local community and the economy. Everyone has a right to be safe and secure in their homes.”

BITAR, Allison – ALP

I am honoured to be selected as the candidate for Braitling in the upcoming Territory Election.
Like many Territorians, I moved to the Territory for a job and stayed for the lifestyle.

My husband is a born and bred Territorian and together we are raising three girls.
As your councillor and Deputy Mayor, I have fought to make the lives of our hard working families easier.

“I love this town, and I think it deserves more. The major parties have ripped us off, putting gas corporations first by expanding the industry in a climate and extinction crisis.

CIVITARESE, Kris – CLP

Kris Civitarese, his wife and family, are long-term Territorians who want to build a stronger future for the Territory.

Kris served in Australian Army, holds two trades and helped run his family construction business.
A passionate advocate for people in the bush, Kris was elected as a councillor on the Barkly Regional Council in 2017 and acted as Deputy Mayor between 2018-19. His experience as a representative means he has the proven experience to get things done.
Living in Berry Springs with his wife Nicole, Kris won’t stand by while the residents of Daly continue to put up with high levels of crime, shocking road conditions and more and more pressure on family budgets. “Serving in the army and as a councillor, I know it’s only when a team works together that projects get delivered.

“Under Labor antisocial behaviour in Palmerston grows, forcing small businesses to pay more for security and repairs.
Meanwhile families become prisoners in their own homes. This impacts local jobs and the family budget as these costs ultimately are passed on to customers. The Territory can’t go on like this.”

FANNIE BAY

POTTER, Brent – ALP

DORRAS-WALKER, Suki – NT Greens

Suki is a school teacher, former union organiser and now a law student. She lives in Darwin with her partner, raising her two young children.
“I’m running because I believe our community deserves better. We deserve representatives who act in the best interest of the community and who will clean up the mess the CLP & the Labor party have made.
I’m tired of seeing the old parties put the gas industry first while our children face an unsafe climate. Big corporations shouldn’t be making huge profits while people are struggling with rising cost of living.
I will put people first. It’s time to make decisions that benefit Territorians instead of gas companies. We need to make sure our community is looked after with affordable housing, accessible and affordable child care, and a safe climate for our kids.”

ZIO, Laurie – CLP

Laurie has had enough of watching the Territory be dragged backwards. She has put up her hand to make a change and be part of the solution.
Having moved to the Territory as a teenager with her family who pursued employment opportunities in Alice Springs, she knows firsthand that the Territory can be better.
Laurie has worked across the NT in the Education sector since 2008 and prides herself on supporting and responding directly to school’s needs. She also has a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration.
Laurie’s husband of 22 years is a serving police officer, and they have three children. She has every reason to stand up for the place she loves and is focused on fighting for safer streets, a quality education for our kids and successful long-term economic growth.

“I have put up my hand because the people of the Fannie Bay electorate deserve someone who is responsive to the community’s needs and accountable for their actions. When I moved to the Territory as a 14-year-old, the NT was the place of opportunity, fun, freedom, mystery and beauty. It’s sad to say that the NT is no longer the place I remember, but I know that it can once again get back to that.”

MAY, Leonard – Independent

FONG LIM

NIBLOCK, Simon – NT Greens

Simon served as a Greens Councillor for Lyons Ward on the City of Darwin for 9 years. Lyons Ward covers most of the seat of Fong Lim, including Stuart Park, The Narrows and Bayview.
Simon has lived in the Territory for 26 years and raised a family here, with his children attending local public schools.
“Territory politics needs voices that aren’t just the same two parties. The Greens don’t take corporate donations, so we can speak for the whole community, not just a small number of big corporate donors. We need to get big money and lobbyists out of government decision making.”

RAHMAN, Tanzil – CLP

Dr Tanzil Rahman moved to Darwin when he was just 2 years old and has never lost his love for the Territory’s unique lifestyle and economic possibilities.
Tanzil grew up in the northern suburbs going to local schools before moving to Sydney to study music, law and economics, which led to him getting a scholarship to Oxford University where he was awarded a doctorate in skilled migration.
The call for home has seen Tanzil resettle in Darwin and he is ready to use his skills to drive economic change.

“The Territory of today is not the Territory I grew up in and it doesn’t have to be the Territory of the future. The people of Fong Lim are aspirational and looking for opportunities for their family to get ahead. That’s what has fired me up to be part of the solution to sustainably grow our economy, create jobs, attract skilled workers and grow our population.”

UN, Amye – Independent

I have lived in Australia for 31 years and have had my business in Fong Lim electorate for 18 years. Residents here asked me to become a City of Darwin councillor, which I did and now they have requested that I run for the Northern Territory Parliament as an independent candidate for Fong Lim.

My focus is on Fong Lim electorate; the people here feel that the two major parties have concentrated mainly on party politics and neglected this electorate and the Northern Territory Government needs to create a stronger and more positive first impression to everyone who travels here.

As everywhere else in Darwin, our electorate’s main concerns are crime and cost of living. We know that improved amenity, green space and tidiness are all factors that contribute to the quality of life and are important in reducing crime and therefore increasing the number of small businesses. The idea of a farmers’ market on the west side of the Stuart Highway at Stuart Park has been suggested by several residents and could be a very construction beginning to a new look Fong Lim.

MONAGHAN, Mark – ALP

Originally from Paisley in West Coast of Scotland, Mark and his family immigrated to Australia when he was 9. Mark established roots in the Northern Territory at the age of 29 and has since become an integral part of the local community. Mark met his wife Michelle, a born and bred Territorian and together they have three children. He is the proud Member for the seat of Fong Lim, a seat with long Territory history, with many long term families and new Territorians.
Mark Monaghan has had a career as a business leader in the Territory, coupled with an extensive background in education spanning over two decades. His tenure in the education sector involved residing in various remote communities within the Territory, including Groote Eylandt, West Arnhem and the Tiwi Islands. Mark’s roles ranged from a dedicated teacher to leadership roles as Assistant Principal, Principal, and eventually College Director.
Transitioning into the engineering sector marked a pivotal phase in Mark’s professional journey. He assumed the role of General Manager at Engineers Australia in the Northern Territory, followed by his appointment as NT Regional Manager for a prominent civil and structural engineering firm. Mark has been a strong voice of support for female participation in the field of engineering where he developed and initiated a programme. This programme went on to receive national acclaim as a leading Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program.
Mark’s multifaceted expertise is now reflected in his ministerial portfolios. This unique combination positions him to continue policy development that fosters a conducive environment for business growth while nurturing the next generation of Territorians.

Having lived in the rural area of Darwin for over 20 years, in Virginia and Marrakai, I am excited about this opportunity to be a truly rural voice for our community. I spent my primary years in Tennant Creek, finished high school in Darwin and am proud to call the Territory home.
After many childhood bush adventures with my family, I chose environmental science as a career and have spent 30 years supporting economic development, while also protecting the environment we all value. I have worked across the construction, defence and resource industries and hail from a family of pastoralists and miners, so I understand the need to be practical, resourceful and pragmatic.
I spent over 10 years growing a small business into a successful consultancy, and was awarded the NT Telstra Business Woman of the Year in 2005. Volunteering as firefighter for over 8 years in Virginia was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Over the past few years I have been studying law and caring for my elderly parents, because I care about law and order and making sure vulnerable people in our community are supported. As a single-income family, I understand how hard it is to make ends meet. Now, more than ever, after the turbulent period of Covid, we need stability in government to allow businesses to thrive and young families to get ahead.

Raised in Tennant Creek, Jarrod Jupurula Williams was recognised at a young age as being a leader, receiving the Australia Day Community Service Award in 2000 for his involvement with the night patrol.

“Gwoja is important to my family, I work there and everyday I see countrymen being let down by Labor for many years. There’s overcrowding in homes, sick kids with no access to healthcare, and the roads aren’t maintained leaving locals isolated, and pushing up the cost of living even higher.
“We need to give people the opportunity to get a job and have a purpose. I’ll be working with elders to bring back community councils which will ensure a sense of pride in the communities of Gwoja.”

STRACHAN, Gary – CLP

Starting off his career as an apprentice hairdresser and going on to open his own salons, Gary is passionate about developing skills and supporting small businesses.

not for profit hairdressing and horticulture program.
Gary travels to Aboriginal Communities across the Territory teaching young Aboriginal Territorians the skills to become a hairdresser for their peers. Gary has worked with young people across 44 indigenous communities and in youth detention facilities helping in breaking the cycle of crime and giving kids a better pathway forward.

“My commitment to giving young people job ready skills led me to stand for the CLP as they are the only party with a real plan to address the issues we see in our young people making the wrong choices. For too long the Northern Suburbs have been taken for granted as crime and cost of living continue to sky-rocket, that’s just not good enough.”

Prior to this, Brian worked for the Chamber of Commerce and as a senior public servant delivering Major Projects and developing industry. He’s a champion for local and small business who recently called out Darwin City Council for failing small business owners for lowering their commitment to buy local. “I’ve seen the difference between Labor and the CLP, the CLP are the ones who get things done. I worked with CLP Governments to deliver projects like the Alice to Darwin railway. I’m fed up with this Labor Government announcing projects but never building them.
“Long term locals tell me the last five years have been the worst they have ever seen, they feel ignored, they feel let down and they live in fear. We’ve got to stand up for residents and put victims first and that’s exactly what I’ll do.”

MULKA

FANNING, Allen – CLP

GUYULA, Yingiya – Independent

Yiŋiya Mark Guyula is a senior leader of the Liya-Dhalinymirr clan and Djambarrpuyŋu Yolŋu people and has been the Independent Member for Nhulunbuy/Mulka in the NT Parliament since 2016. He was elected on the platform of Treaty and the promise to fight for First Nations rights to self determination and self-governance.

He is a highly skilled cross-cultural educator and worked for many years as a Senior Lecturer at Charles Darwin University. He has also held various community facilitator roles and worked as a NAATI Accredited Interpreter.
During his time in Parliament, Yiŋiya has challenged the Government to create inclusive laws and policies that work towards acceptance, understanding and equality for Aboriginal law, culture and authority, with a view to two-ways and two cultures – working together.
He has worked hard to consistently scrutinise and hold the Government to account on issues affecting regional and remote communities and homeland towns to bring better outcomes for housing, health, education and justice.

NAMATJIRA

McFARLAND, Blair – NT Greens

The NT Greens are delighted to announce the 2024 NT Australian of the Year, Blair McFarland, as our candidate for Namatjira.
Blair was awarded the 2024 NT Australian of the Year Award in recognition of decades of work fighting to improve the health and lives of young people in Central Australia.
Blair has worked in justice in Central Australia for nearly 40 years. He has worked for Tangentyere Council helping remote communities set up night patrols and as a Probation Officer across Central Australia, helping people access support to stay out of the justice system.
In 2002, Blair founded the Central Australian Youth Link Up Service (CAYLUS) with Tangentyere to tackle the epidemic of volatile substance use amongst young people.
“We’ve heard a lot of politicians talking about community safety and justice during this election. I’ve worked in justice in Central Australia for nearly 40 years and I can tell the major parties right now that more of the same from them won’t work to make us safer. I can say from experience that prevention is the way forward, not strategies that kick in after the crime.”
“As part of the community campaign for non-sniffable fuel, I worked with Greens Senator Rachel Siewert to secure the Opal fuel rollout. That rollout has saved young lives here. Having a Green in Parliament helped shine a light on urgent issues that other politicians didn’t understand.
“Voting 1 for the Greens at this Territory election tells the major parties they need to do better. We need a completely different approach to helping young people and finding justice, especially for First Nations kids. If we want safer communities, we need to focus on kids’ basic needs right now, like access to food and shelter.”

YAN, Bill – CLP

Moving to the Territory in 1991, Bill has lived in Alice Springs ever since. He is the father of two adult children who were born and raised in Alice Springs.

Bill also has extensive experience in the Tourism industry, previously managing two of the largest fleet operations at AAT Kings and Adventure Tours.
Bill’s key strengths are strategic leadership, communication, and negotiation.

“I love Alice and have devoted time and effort as a volunteer to local sporting groups particularly in the motorsports area. It’s also pretty well known that I love wetting a line along with mountaineering, bushwalking and cooking. I’m fighting as part of the CLP Team that will address root causes of crime, so we can live safely in Alice.”

TAYLOR, Sheralee – ALP

My name is Sheralee Taylor. I am the Territory Labor candidate for Namatjira.
I am proud to have been born and raised in Mparntwe/Alice Springs, where I have also grown up my kids.
I have worked in both the non-government and Government sectors, with over 15 years’ experience working in the health space.
I have been involved in community sports – including working on the CAAMA sports team, commentating local AFL games, and in 2019 I proudly became the first female premiership coach in the CAWFL.
I believe that all Territorians deserve the same opportunities – whether you live in the bush or in town.
I also believe that for strong, healthy, happy communities to thrive, we must all work together to address crime, to build strong families, and to get kids to school and people into work. Families need to feel safe, wherever they live, with access to housing, schools, and health care. If people have access to these things, we see less crime in our communities. I will work hard for – and with – the people of Namatjira, and the Northern Territory. Let’s do this together.

I am not afraid to call out Labor for its failures and my focus will be on making sure youths and their parents are held accountable, that Darwin continues to grow and that kids are going to school.
“The CLP is about empowering Territorians to achieve their dreams and take responsibility for their future, and I am proud to have the opportunity to represent the people of Nightcliff.”

McNAMARA, Kat – NT Greens

Kat is a former tradie and a recent graduate of CDU with a Bachelor of Environmental Science. They live in Nightcliff with their partner and their three young kids.
“Corporate interests have a stranglehold on our government and it needs to end. Time and time again I have seen the Nightcliff community come together to raise concerns to our representatives. They’re not being listened to. I am here to represent my community and bring their voices into parliament. I will challenge the status quo on issues that impact people’s daily lives: the cost of living, the climate crisis, access to affordable housing and childcare. CAHILL, Robyn – CLP

Robyn is one of the most experienced professionals in the Territory healthcare sector.
A former Executive Director of the Australian Medical Association, Robyn has run the Darwin Private Hospital, and the GP superclinic.
Her charity work includes chairing the NT Cancer Council and working with NT Hospice and Palliative Care to deliver the first in Darwin. She currently volunteers her time chairing Total Recreation, a charity that gives people with disabilities the support to do the things we take for granted and enjoy everyday.
When Robyn moved to the Territory with her now husband Len, and raised her two boys here, it was a different place. Business was booming, opportunities were endless and hard work was rewarded.

“The Territory I came to has disappeared, the opportunities and choices continue to decline, businesses are shutting, we can’t keep going this way. The healthcare system is in crisis, we can’t attract and retain the professionals we need, practices are closing and elective surgery wait times are ridiculous.
“To fix it we need strong economic and population growth and I know the CLP team can achieve it.”

MANNING, Brian – ALP

Born at Myilly Point, and raised in Darwin, I have deep ties to the Port Darwin electorate.
My school education commenced at Darwin Pre-School then Darwin Primary and Darwin High School.
I’ve just spent the last eight years as Assistant Principal of Darwin Middle School.
Along with my wife, Dr Anne Kleinitz, I’m raising five amazing kids. Anne spent five years in General Practice at the Cavenagh Medical Centre and is now working in remote communities and training medical students, junior doctors, GP trainees and registrars in General Practice.
Like many in our wonderfully multicultural community, my mother, Mila, immigrated in the early 1960s. She worked hard in a number of her parent’s small businesses in the CBD before commencing her career as a CSD attendant at the old Darwin Hospital.
My late father, Brian T Manning, spent his working life on the Port Darwin waterfront. He was known and respected across the political spectrum for improving the lives of many people less fortunate than himself.
Mum and Dad instilled in me the values of education, community service, working hard, standing up for what you believe and being a voice for those who don’t have one.
After school, I pursued a Bachelor of Music from UNE, Armidale, and Diploma in Education from the University of Sydney. Yet, my heart was drawn back to the Top End. I have dedicated the last 25 years to education across the NT.
My passion for nurturing young minds and developing local talent has seen me undertake numerous teaching and leadership roles across institutions such as Darwin High School, The NT Music School, Malak Re-engagement Centre and remote schools at the GARMA Festival.

SANDERSON

CHARLS, Jinson Anto – CLP

Born in Kerala, India, Jinson studied his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery before migrating to Australia in 2011. Moving to Darwin in 2015, Jinson worked as a Registered Nurse in the Alcohol Mandatory Treatment program which was then scrapped by Labor in 2017 – despite the real, positive outcomes that the program delivered.
Jinson has held senior leadership positions in health, delivering mental health care to Territorians, working as a team manager and operations manager in the field. His passion for delivering quality health care services led to him being appointed as the Director of Acute Services, Top End Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drug Services (NT Health).
Jinson, his wife Anu and his two daughters Aimie (10) and Anna (4) are deeply ingrained in the Territory’s multicultural community. Jinson currently serves as the President of the Darwin Malayalee Association. He is a fierce and passionate advocate for local families, and believes that only a CLP Government has a plan to build the Territory for local kids’ futures.

“We need people with the experience to deliver the health and rehabilitation services we need. Territorians deserve more support and access to better healthcare. Family and community are so important to me but with crime and economic decline, families don’t have the choices and options we used to.”

Raised by a single mother who juggled raising Caleb and his twin brother with a career in the tourism and airline industries, he developed an early appreciation for the Territory’s rich culture and spirit. Now a homeowner in Palmerston, family is central to Caleb’s life. He and his wife Jessica cherish their role as parents to their two sons and are filled with anticipation for the arrival of their new baby. This strong family foundation is the cornerstone of Caleb’s values and drives his commitment to fostering a nurturing and prosperous community for all families in Palmerston.
Caleb enlisted in the Australian Defence Force at 16 years and 9 months old. Starting his career in the 1st Armoured Regiment as a tank crewman in Darwin, he quickly rose through the ranks. His military service included a deployment to Afghanistan at 19 and progression to a tank commander and troop corporal by 21. He later served as a recruit instructor at Kapooka, completing over a decade of service.
Caleb is driven by a desire to see more children and young people positively engage in their communities, especially through sports. “I love the Territory, it’s the best place in Australia to grow up and raise a family, but recently thousands of people are giving up and leaving, fed up with how crime has been left to run rampant. It’s an honour to represent the voters of Spillett and fight for the issues that effect them on a daily basis. Whether it’s crime, cost of living, school funding, or local roads I will fight for them.
“I’m excited and optimistic about the future because the Territory can be better and the CLP Team have a Plan to achieve real change.”

WANGURI

CARLSON, Oly – CLP

Long time Leanyer local and mother Oly Carlson was born and raised in Darwin.
Her father came here for the pearling industry in 1937 and later survived the Bombing of Darwin.
With a wealth of experience in the financial services industry, including serving almost 25 years at the Commonwealth Bank in the Darwin CBD, Oly is passionate about seeing more women in senior roles in the sector.
Having been schooled here and raised her own family here, Oly is horrified at the decline in education standards and support for Territory kids.

“Growing up I felt so lucky my Dad chose Darwin for our family. As kids we had an incredible lifestyle and the choice to be whoever we wanted to be.
Now, our lifestyle and community has changed, we live in fear and our choices have been taken away.
“My Mum, who worked so hard for us, now doesn’t feel safe to leave the house alone after being attacked by a gang of youths at Casuarina. Darwin is too important to us, I’m standing up to make a change.”

COATES, Andrew – NT Greens

Andrew is an environmental scientist who researches ways of reducing the impacts of introduced species on nature.
“As a scientist, I value policies that are backed by good research and evidence. I’m fed up with the major parties twisting or ignoring the facts to misinform all of us. They do it on fracking, they do it on climate and they do it on the best approach to community safety.
“I’m so excited for the Greens to become a voice in the Territory Parliament that speaks directly for all of us in the community. There’s a genuine buzz in this campaign. Instead of talking the NT down like the other parties, we’re focused on the things we love about this place.”

  1. Thank you NT Independent, this is a invaluable resource for Voters!
For example, I would not have remembered the CLP Candidate for Port Darwin as I have not seen her or the CLP volunteers for the last 6 weeks! I almost called the cops to do a Welfare Check on that candidate.
The ALP red shirt interstaters on the other hand, have swarmed the area and cant stop calling people at 5pm!

Have all the previous CLP volunteers not been allowed out of there nursing home?

  2. How sad. Good ol’ Trev is having another crack but where’s Ray Rajwin gone?

  3. Thanks for promoting the candidate’s profile.

Here are a few corrections for your editors to amend:

Kris Civitarese; not Chris (as per the heading).

Joel Bowden played (add ed) 265 games.

Kat McNamara: They (she) lives in Nightcliff with her partner.
