Police used tyre spikes to stop a vehicle carrying a large amount of alcohol and marijuana in the Daly River, that they believed was involved in grog and drug running, and had been involved in a hit-and-run in Darwin, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement police were looking for information about the hit-and-run that was committed in Jingili on Friday afternoon.

He said that about 2:50pm Friday, police received reports that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian in the Jingili cemetery carpark before driving off.

“The victim left the area before emergency services arrived and was later located outside Nightcliff Police Station and conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital to receive treatment for her injuries,” Mr Wilton said.

The condition of the victim was not given.

“Police received intelligence that the vehicle related to the incident was heading to a remote community with a large quantity of alcohol and a quantity of cannabis,” Mr Wilton said.

“A short time later, Daly River members located the vehicle, and a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed bringing the vehicle to a stop before the occupants fled into nearby bushland.”

Mr Wilton said the vehicle along with the alcohol and marijuana was seized.
