UPDATED: Police have re-arrested a 37-year-old inmate who walked out of Royal Darwin Hospital Monday night with a moon boot on his leg while at the hospital on a “leave permit”.
NT Police said Aaron Thompson, a Darwin Correctional Centre prisoner, was loctaed around lunchtime at Casuarina after absconding from RDH at 8:00pm Monday evening.
NT Police also did not detail the events that led to Mr Thompson’s escape or why he was there.
It was also not explained how he escaped from the corrections officer supervising him at the hospital.
Police said Serious Crime detectives apprehended Thompson at Casuarina.
“Serious Crime Detectives apprehended the man a short time ago. Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier.
Police had not provided Thompson’s criminal record after he escaped custody but said he was not considered a risk to public safety.
However, police had urged anyone who saw him not to approach but contact the police instead.
He was last seen with a moon boot on his leg before making his escape, police said.
