The body of a man who went missing while swimming at Fish Hole waterhole west of Alice Springs, has been recovered NT Police have said.

NT Police media manager Rob Cross said in a statement, the 36-year-old man had gone swimming with a group of friends at the waterhole in the Jay Creek area, 30km west of Alice Springs on Saturday afternoon.

He said the man’s friends reported him missing when he failed to reappear and his belongings remained at the side of the waterhole.

“An extensive search was launched by police and NT Emergency Services with foot patrols, drone, and a boat equipped with sonar capability deployed to the area, but did not locate the man before last light on Saturday,” he said.

Mr Cross said the search continued on Sunday and from first light in Monday before police were told the man’s body had been seen.

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner, he said.
