NT Police have charged two teenage girls for allegedly assaulting a “vulnerable” female at Casuarina over the weekend, and arrested a 22-year-old woman in Katherine for allegedly bashing a 62-year-old with an undisclosed weapon and sending him to hospital overnight.
Police said the two teen girls allegedly pushed the woman to the ground while she was walking through the Casuarina Shopping Centre on Sunday, breaking her hand. They did not say what prompted the attack or if the woman had been robbed.
Strike Force Trident members reportedly arrested the two girls on Sunday night at separate residences.
A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were both charged with aggravated assault, with the 16-year-old also charged with one count of resisting police.
“To cowardly attack a vulnerable member of the community is absolutely disgusting,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said.
“Police would like to thank the members of public who assisted the victim and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, who hasn’t already done so, to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10152754.”
Meanwhile, in Katherine, police said a 22-year-old female assaulted a 62-year-old man on Sunday night with an undisclosed weapon around 11:30pm, sending him to hospital with serious injuries.
“The female was arrested a short time later and is expected to be charged with unlawfully cause serious harm and armed with offensive weapon,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Byron May.
“Detectives from the Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing to investigate the incident.

They did not say exactly where the incident is alleged to have occurred, if it was in a public place or if the man was robbed.
