A man is on the run after he allegedly attacked his partner, then threw rocks at police, and shattered a police vehicle windscreen with an unspecified weapon in Wadeye, NT Police said.
Superintendent Paul Faustmann said in a statement that just after 2:30am Wednesday two officers went to a Wadeye house after a report there was an armed man there.
He said that when the police arrived the 26-year-old alleged offender threw rocks at them from nearby bushland.
“A male officer was struck to the back of the head with a large rock, while a female officer was struck to the side of the face with small gravel rocks,” Supt Faustmann said.
“The officers retreated to the police vehicle before the offender launched an edged weapon that shattered the vehicle’s windscreen.”
Supt Faustmann said the man ran off, and the officers found his domestic violence victim in the house, a 27-year-old woman, who was taken to the local clinic with head injuries.
While the officers were also treated there for cuts and abrasions.
“The attack on our members during their line of duty is unacceptable,” Supt Faustmann said.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them on 131 4444.
