NT Police are looking for witnesses to an assault in Alice Springs on Saturday involving a driver of a black Holden Commodore and its passengers who allegedly bashed two men with a tyre iron leaving them with serious injuries.
Three days ago, around 10:30pm, the two men aged 45 and 47, were travelling inbound on Gap Road, near a 24-hour convenience store in a silver Nissan Navara.
Investigators say there was a near-miss with a black Holden Commodore and a verbal altercation started between the drivers.
The driver of the Commodore conducted a U-turn and it is alleged he armed himself with a large blunt metal object.
He then assaulted the two men in the Navara and smashed the front passenger window of the vehicle.
The victims told police that the driver fled the scene on foot and a passenger in the Commodore used the vehicle to flee the scene upon police arrival.
Police did not specify how many passengers exactly were in the Commodore when the crime happened. Facebook page Action for Alice 2020 had posts alleging that four males were involved in the assault.
It’s unknown if it was a stolen vehicle.
Police did not mention the ages of the group of offenders they were looking for.
Responding officers did not locate the driver of the Commodore or its passengers when they arrived.
The two victims meanwhile were taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment. Police did not give details on their medical conditions.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information in relation to the driver of the black Holden Commodore to contact them on 131 444 or make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersnt.com.au quoting PROMIS reference number 9797349.
