NT Police have charged a 54-year-old man with manslaughter over the death of another man at a home in Darwin River on Saturday night.

Initial reports indicated the deceased man, 53, had been in a “physical altercation” and was rendered “unresponsive” at the home just before 10:30pm.

Paramedics and police conducted CPR on the man upon arrival but he died at the scene, police said.

An initial investigation determined that both men were known to each other and it’s alleged they had engaged in the altercation.

On Sunday afternoon, police released a statement calling the death “suspicious” and that the 54-year-old man had been “assisting” police with their investigation.

Late Sunday night, police said the 54-year-old man had been charged with manslaughter in relation to the incident.

“He has been refused police bail and will be remanded in custody to appear before Darwin Local Court on a date yet to be determined,” the statement said.
