NT Police are investigating a suspicious vehicle fire in Francis Bay Drive last week that appears to have been deliberately lit, and are seeking public information about the arson incident.

Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said police responded to a vehicle fire along Francis Bay Drive and at around 2:15am on February 26.

The vehicle set ablaze was a Ford flatbed truck that was parked in a vacant lot along the road. Details as to whether there were other valuables destroyed or could possibly stolen from the vehicle were not mentioned in the police report.

One week after the incident, Sgt Bland said investigators determined that the fire was deliberately lit and police are now calling for witnesses.

Anyone with information relating to the incident or could have been in the area on February 26, around 2:15am, is being urged to contact police on 131 444 or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 quoting reference number 9575749.

On January 13, a large commercial vessel also caught fire at Hornibrook’s Wharf in Frances Bay around 3:30am.

The 24m MV Guru was docked at the wharf to undergo maintenance before setting sail for Papua New Guinea.
