UPDATED: Three men have been charged – including one with attempted murder – following a violent street brawl in Karama that resulted in two other men being hospitalised after being attacked with pipes and “edged weapons”.
The incident occurred around 10pm Sunday night on Koolinda Crescent.
Police said on Monday that two males were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The other group of males reportedly fled the scene in two vehicles.
NT Police said on Tuesday afternoon that three men had been located and charged, including a 19 and 20-year-old, who have both been charged with acts intending to cause serious harm.
A 46-year-old man is facing attempted murder charges for his alleged role in the altercation.
All three men were arrested Monday and set to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
Police are looking for any possible witnesses to come forward with any information they have about the incident.
“Investigators were able to quickly track down the alleged offenders and now each of them will face court for their violent actions,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Annette Cooper.
It’s the latest incidence of violence in Karama that has been plagued by crime.
In May, police charged two separate men with murder following stabbing incidents at the Karama shopping centre.
Last year, local MLA Ngaree Ah Kit came under fire by residents for not doing enough to help combat the crime issues plaguing the community and holding invite-only forums to discuss the community’s concerns.
