NT Police are seeking the public’s help to locate a 34-year-old prisoner who left a corrections work release program in the northern suburbs last week, but did not say why they did not notify the public before late Monday afternoon.

Police said Fitz Green, 34, was in an unsupervised work release program in Marrara on Friday July 7 when he failed to show up after his shift at 12:30 pm.

No further details were provided. The delay in notifying the public was not explained.

Fitz Green, 34, escaped from a corrections program last week.

The NT Independent revealed last month that the Fyles Government had installed a crime marketing manager to oversee what crime information is released to the public. Last week, the NT Police communications director was sacked amid accusations of political interference in the operations of police.

The statement about Green was released at 4:30pm Monday.

“Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” the statement said. “Please quote reference 10392379.”

  1. Send the marketing manager out to find him. Hiding this for four days is one way to reduce prisoner numbers.
