Northern Territory Police have arrested two people and say it had put a “significant dent” in drug supply to the surrounding remote communities of Tennant Creek where more than 560 grams of cannabis was allegedly found.
Sergeant Marek Hutchinson-Goncz said the drugs were believed to be packaged and ready to be trafficked into remote communities across the Barkly region.
He said a 25-year-old woman, and a 28-year-old man were arrested on Monday night after police raided a Tennant Creek home.
“Two people have been arrested, and charged with drug related offences after police seized more than $28,000 worth of cannabis from a home in Tennant Creek overnight,” he said.
Sgt Hutchinson-Goncz said the woman was charged with one count of possessing a commercial quantity of a schedule two dangerous drug, and the man was charged with one count each of, supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule two dangerous drug, possessing a commercial quantity of a schedule two dangerous drug, and dealing money and property proceeds of crime.
He said a 20-year-old man who was also at the property, and found with cannabis, was fined
Sgt Hutchinson-Goncz said the police seizure would significantly dent the supply of dangerous drugs in Tennant Creek.
“This is a great result in reducing drug related harm to people living in remote communities in the Northern Territory, and we will continue to focus on holding these offenders responsible.”
