A 22-year-old man has been charged over the alleged indecent assault of a young girl – whose age was not given – in an abandoned vehicle in Tennant Creek, NT Police said.

Detective Acting Superintendent Michael Schumacher said Regional Crime Division detectives were allegedly able to identify the offender through DNA analysis, and he was arrested and taken to Tennant Creek police station on an unspecified day, where he was charged with gross indecency involving a child.

Supt Schumacher said the young girl, whose age was not given, was allegedly assaulted between 7:30pm and 8pmon the evening of February 13 , when the man allegedly approached the girl at the front of her house, before leading her into a nearby abandoned vehicle in vicinity of Whippet Street, where the indecent assault occurred.

There was no further information given.
