The NT Police’s ongoing crackdown on anti-social behaviour has targeted Karama, Nightcliff, Casuarina and Palmerston CBD in its latest sweep, tipping out 175 litres of grog, taking 38 people into protective custody and “moving on” 320 people, police said.

The latest figures are from Operation Nehammer, which was established last month to target anti-social behaviour and “minimize alcohol-fueled violence by reducing secondary supply”.

The operation includes police teams from different regions across the Greater Darwin area and external agencies, including local councils, Larrakia Nation and public housing and transport departments.

The taskforce is conducting weekly operations in different areas across the Greater Darwin region.

“The operation has had a significant effect on antisocial behaviour and alcohol-fuelled violence around Darwin,” said Acting Sergeant Theo Karamanidis.

“Operation Nehammer will continue to run for the foreseeable future and NT Police will continue to combat alcohol-fuelled violence in all its forms.”
