A man was struck and killed by a white Toyota Hilux while crossing Berrimah Road around 9:30pm Wednesday night, NT Police said, as the investigation into the crash and the man’s identity continues.

The man was crossing Berrimah Road between Moo Street and Dennis Court when he was struck and killed. Police and paramedics attended and attempted to resuscitate him but he was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the ute remained at the scene, returning negative alcohol and drug tests, police said.

Berrimah Road was closed overnight while Major Crash investigators examined the scene.

“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing, including the formal identification of the deceased,” police media director Mark Wilton said.

“Anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash, or witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police, is urged to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference number NTP2600085110.”

Meanwhile, NT Police are also investigating a three-vehicle crash at Coolalinga that saw one car smashed so hard it was pushed into a carpark, striking a parked car, with a 17-year-old reportedly initially fleeing the scene but later coming forward to return a positive alcohol reading.

The crash occurred around 10:30pm outside a takeaway restaurant at Coolalinga Central when police say a vehicle travelling along the service road next to the Stuart Highway collided with another vehicle turning onto the service road.

The force of the impact sent the second vehicle into the carpark and hitting the third parked vehicle that had a 50-year-old man inside who suffered minor injuries.

The 29-year-old driver of the second vehicle needed to be extricated by firefighters.

Police said the occupants of the first vehicle left the scene before emergency services arrived, but that a 17-year-old boy later contacted police to identify himself as the driver of the first vehicle.

“He returned a positive alcohol reading and was arrested to undergo further breath testing,” Mr Wilton said. “He was later released into the care of his mother.

“Police believe speed may have contributed to the crash.

“Investigations are continuing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage from the area is urged to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference number NTP2600085069.”
