The NT Government’s proposed pastoral land use rule changes to allow for cropping and horticulture on cattle grazing land came a week after a Territory cattle station asked for its clearing permit to be revoked that ended a Supreme Court challenge by environmental groups about whether clearing land for crops was allowed under the Pastoral Land Act.
On Tuesday, May 23, Agribusiness and Fisheries Minister Paul Kirby launched the Fyles Government’s NT Agribusiness 2023 Strategy, which included the changed use for pastoral land – which is the majority of the agricultural land in the NT – to include cropping and horticultural.
A good start, now make sure the taxpayer is not subsidising these environmental Luddites, plus get rid of the sacred site problem by making sure they are all identified and signposted.
