A man who either stopped his car on the road after being “flagged down” – or was stopped pulling out of his driveway – in Moulden on Friday night by “two violent offenders” was allegedly knocked out and had his car stolen, NT Police said.

Police said the motorist was discovered “some time later” by other passing motorists, but presented conflicting details of the incident.

A statement initially said the man stopped his car after being “flagged down” and was knocked unconscious, but later in the same release stated that the man was assaulted in his own driveway while opening the gate.

“Police and paramedics attended and the man was transported to Palmerston Regional Hospital with minor injuries,” Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said in the statement. “He has since been discharged.”

The man’s stolen vehicle was discovered by police at around 1:20am somewhere in Palmerston, police said, and a 34-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested in connection to the incident.

The man is facing multiple charges, including “robbery in company”, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and “other driving offences”.

The woman was charged with robbery in company and unlawful use of a vehicle.

Both were refused bail, police said, and will appear in Darwin Local Court at an unspecified date.

“General duties (officers), (Strike Force) Trident, dog operations and a crime detective successfully arrested two violent offenders who attacked a man in his own driveway as he opened up his gate,” Sgt Cottier said.

“We will not tolerate any violent offending on members of the public going about their business.”
