A 38-year-old man was arrested on Friday at his Palmerston home following a Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) investigation involving NT Police and AFP officers, who served a search warrant at his residence where several alleged child abuse materials were confiscated.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with possession or control of child abuse materials, access to child abuse materials, transmitting child abuse materials, and soliciting child abuse materials.

“The safety and well-being of our community, especially our children, are of paramount importance. The Northern Territory Police, along with our federal counterparts, will continue to work diligently to ensure the prosecution of individuals engaged in such criminal activities,” Detective Sergeant Mark Cronin said.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

Sergeant Cronin said the arrest and charges follow an investigation into the suspect’s online activities that allegedly involved child exploitation materials. He said JACET remains committed to taking decisive actions against persons involved in such activities.

Anyone who has any information on people involved in child abuse and exploitation is advised to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://crimestoppers.com.au/.

The public can also report online by alerting the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) via the ‘Report Abuse’ button at www.accce.gov.au/report
