A 19-year-old man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and a friend with a weapon in Palmerston, sending the 16-year-old girl to hospital with injuries, has been arrested and charged for domestic violence, NT Police said.

The man has also been charged with distributing child abuse material, police said.

Police allege the man assaulted the two teenage girls in an incident which occurred on Saturday, December 4 between 9pm and 11pm on the corner of Packard Ave and Redmond Cres in Durack.

Police said the man used a “weapon” to assault the two teens, with his partner being taken to Palmerston Regional Hospital for treatment.

He was arrested by detectives from the Domestic and Family Violence section over the weekend after he allegedly assaulted his partner a second time at a house before fleeing with stolen property.

The 19-year-old has been charged with five counts of aggravated assault, two counts of damage to property, aggravated unlawful entry, being armed in public, robbery, attempted unlawful entry and distributing child abuse material.

He will appear in Darwin Local Court tomorrow.
