A 63-year-old man has died after the plane he was piloting crashed at the Fogg Dam recreational area Sunday morning, police said, with a 29-year-old female passenger surviving the crash.

NT Police said they received reports of the light aircraft crash around 10:20am and attended the scene.

“The Search and Rescue section coordinated a response and a CareFlight Helicopter was dispatched to the area,” police said in a statement.

“An uninjured 29-year-old female passenger was winched from the scene by helicopter and transported to Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment.”

Police said the 63-year-old pilot was found dead inside the plane.

The names of the two occupants were not released.

Other media reports indicated the plane had crashed in the water at Fogg Dam.

Police said a crime scene has been established at the site and investigations are continuing.
