NT Police have welcomed four new members to its elite Search and Rescue Squad after completing their training and evaluation, which follows the unit being plagued with a lack of personnel that meant it could not undertake some diving operations in late 2021.

The lack of training in late 2021 had played a part in the lack of divers in the unit, including for one incident that saw police forced to wait for a drowned man’s body to decompose and rise to the surface because of the lack of qualified members.
