The NT Police have reportedly dropped their investigation into an alleged assault involving bikies at Monsoon’s in Darwin after failing to secure a witness.
An unnamed spokesman told the NT News on Tuesday that no charges had been laid despite police’s attempts to solicit witnesses through a public statement over the weekend, alleging members of the Mongols Motorcycle Club were involved in a “number of disturbances” at bars in the Darwin CBD Friday night following their national run to the Top End from Alice Springs.
“In the end there were no charges because there was no complaint laid,” the unnamed police spokesman told the paper, adding that there were two victims but neither had made a complaint.
Police had alleged two men were assaulted at Monsoons after 3am on Saturday morning, but never provided details about the alleged incidents.
Police estimated that more than 150 Mongols members had taken part in the annual bike run from Alice Springs to Darwin last week.
NT Police had set up checkpoints for the run and alleged on Saturday that three people connected to the club had been issued notices to appear for “drug-related matters including drug driving and possession”.
“Police take a proactive approach to engaging with these gangs and have conducted vehicle checkpoints in Alice Springs and Noonamah over the past two days,” police media manager Rob Cross said at the time.
Police could not confirm court dates or any other information about the alleged charges on Tuesday.
