  1. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Independence-Day-United-States-holiday
Independence Day, in the United States of America, the annual celebration of nationhood held on July 4. It commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. This document announced the separation of the 13 North American colonies from Great Britain. In 1870 the U.S. Congress made Independence Day an unpaid holiday for federal workers, and in 1938 it became a paid federal holiday. Also called the Fourth of July, the holiday is celebrated across the United States with parades, fireworks show, picnics, concerts, and other festivities. Independence Day is also notable for its displays of patriotism, as many Americans commemorate the day by flying the American flag and dressing in the flag’s colours of red, white, and blue.

  2. To celebrate the US Independence day…Independence they gained from the Commonwealth & crown, which Australia is a current and life long member, and our head of state is the same crown they fought against….why should this even be considered.
Not to mention at cost to the tax payer…we are already footing billions for AUKUS and a cost of living crises & fuel created by the US attack on Iran!
    Disgusting!

  3. With the Territory debt galloping ahead toward a very precarious position, spending of all money should be scrutinised in a hard nosed way. Sorry America but lack of funds do not allow us to indulge in your festivities.

    • Agreed, we have a public health ecosystem that is reducing and denying services, funding centric instead of patient centric will be a greater cost to the region if not addressed today.

Perhaps the US would like to donate to the NT welfare fund?
