Website founder and NT businesswoman Amy Milford has again been named among the finalists for the AusMumpreneur awards, in the regional business category, and in a people’s choice category.
Ms Milford launched her Darwin Family Life site in 2017, and it provides information and resources for both new and long-time Darwin families.
“Now more than ever Australian women need inspirational role models and an inclusive and supportive space to connect online. These awards are all about recognising the growing number of mums who are achieving outstanding business success while balancing motherhood,” she said.
Ms Milford said her website allows Territory families to find things for their kids to do on the school holidays, goings on around Darwin, and provide information on local businesses, among other things.
Her website won a bronze award in last year’s AusMumpreneur awards, in the people’s choice, making a difference in the local community category.
“It felt like I was taking the trophy home for the NT, as the NT community voted for me,” she said.
Ms Milford said she was delighted to be named as a finalist in the regional business category this year, and again in the making a difference in the local community category, and was proud of her achievements, particularly working regularly with over 40 small businesses and gaining two major clients in the last 12 months.
She said it is a challenge to be a successful businesswoman while raising a family.
“It will be a roller coaster ride, but you cannot appreciate the highs without the lows as well. Having a positive mindset is key to running a successful business,” she said.
AusMumpreneur awards co-founder Peace Mitchel said the awards were created to inspire, celebrate and provide a community for Australian entrepreneurs, like Ms Milford, with areas for recognition including business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation.
Ms Milford grew up in the NT and is a mother to four kids. She said she wanted to create something to balance working with raising her young family as a solo parent.
“It allows me the flexibility of being there for my four kids and also providing for our family. I can go to sports days, take them to appointments and balance my exercise and well-being,” she said.
The winners of the AusMumpreneur awards will be announced at the gala dinner on August 24.
