Almost half a million dollars of cash and commercial quantities of methamphetamine, cannabis, and other illicit substances have been seized from two separate afternoon drug busts in Darwin on Thursday where a woman and a man were arrested, NT Police said.

Detectives from Drug and Organised Crime executed a search warrant on a residence in Anula around 12:40pm.

Police seized over $60,000 in cash, believed to be from drug trading and a quantity of methamphetamine and cannabis including drug paraphernalia.

A prohibited weapon was also seized from the property.

Police did not specify the amount of illicit drugs seized.

A 50-year-old woman was arrested at the Anula residence.

Police executed a separate search warrant on a residence in Muirhead at around 3:20pm.

Authorities said they seized $400,000 in cash, also believed to be from drug trading, and an unspecified quantity of “illicit substances”.

They did not mention what types of illicit substances were confiscated.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at the Muirhead residence.

NT Police said both suspects are scheduled to appear at the Darwin Local Court today to face multiple drug-related charges.

The woman was additionally charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of tainted property.

The man was also charged with possession of tainted property, failure to meet storage requirements, and possession of fireworks.

“Illicit substances, particularly methamphetamine, cause systemic, long-lasting harm to our community,” Detective Sergeant Jonathon Spencer said.

“Drug and Organised Crime will continue to disrupt its supply into the NT and put those who distribute it before the courts,” Sgt Spencer said.
