by | Mar 28, 2022 | News Brief | 0 comments

The committee looking at whether the NT has too many local government councillors has called for submissions from the public as part of its first review, following changes to the Local Government Act which came into force last year.

The independent Local Government Representation Committee (LGRC) is made up of the CEO of the Local Government Association of the NT Sean Holden, NT Electoral Commissioner Leon Loganathan and NT Surveyor General Garry West.

The review committee will focus on whether the possible implementation of wards in Alice Springs, Katherine and Palmerston councils is needed and whether other councils have too many representatives based on population size that they represent.

The review process which is excepted to be finalised by the end of 2022 while the first round of submissions will close on May 31, 2022.

Submissions can be sent to the committee on Secretariat.NTEC@nt.gov.au or go to the Local Government Representation Reviews website.
