Alice Springs will see more gambling machines in local pubs and clubs after Gaming Minister Chansey Paech only slightly reduced the numbers of pokies Territory-wide following deep community outrage over Iris Capital’s application for more machines at its establishments.
While the government has now lifted its nine-month moratorium on new machine licences and slightly lowered the previous Territory-wide pokies cap by 40, from 1,699 machines to 1,659, Iris Capital still has active applications for 20 new machines for its clubs and pubs, a slight reduction from the 60 it originally applied for.
