A new new pop culture and technology event called DiGiT, which incorporates gaming, cosplay, digital art and e-sports, along with panels and workshops, will be held in Darwin in November the organisers have said.
DIGiT is short for Darwin Interactive Games & Innovative Technologies, and the event is being organised by The Array, a Darwin tech-hub and learning space.
The Array spokesperson Taneille Brann said the one-day event would bring together game makers, e-sports enthusiasts, digital artists, educators, startups, and families, featuring a blend of local talent alongside special guests from interstate and overseas.
“The Territory has an incredible amount of energy and creativity within its geek community, and DiGiT is about building on that momentum. We’re blending games, cosplay, digital art and e-sports with hands-on workshops and panels to create a festival that feels local, welcoming and full of opportunities,” Ms Brann said.
She said that highlights of the event include Maker’s Lane, showcasing creations from NT studios and indie teams, a cosplay parade with community meet-ups, and interactive virtual reality and gaming zones.
The event will also host an e-sports arena featuring the Array Elite League finals and showcase matches, along with talks and workshops led by industry experts and NT innovators, with details to be announced in early October.
Ms Brann said there would also be a 3D modelling sculpture showcase.
Geek Culture Collective chair Lachlan Campbell said his organisation was excited to see The Array take the Territory’s geek community to a new level.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the creativity and passion that already exists here, while connecting with new audiences and broadening what geek culture can mean in the NT,” Mr Campbell said.
The event is scheduled for November 8 at the Darwin Entertainment Centre in Darwin and tickets are on sale from the centre’s website.
