Netflix series ‘Territory’ to premiere October 24

A neo-western Netflix series called Territory, formerly known as Desert King, that was filmed in remote NT and SA locations will premiere on October 24, with a celebrated cast of Australian actors, the online production company has announced.

The series was filmed across the NT and South Australia in the “remote and unforgiving Australian outback”, promo material for the show stated.

Filming locations included Kakadu National Park – with permission from the Traditional Owners – and Tipperary Station.

The series is billed as an explosive drama focusing on a fight for power when the world’s largest cattle station is left without a clear heir. An ensuing generational clash threatens to tear the Lawson family apart.

“Sensing this once great dynasty is in decline, the outback’s most powerful factions – rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, Indigenous elders, and billionaire miners – move in for the kill,” Netflix said. “With billions of dollars at stake, everyone wants a piece of the pie.”

Territory is led by Australian actress Anna Torv with Michael Dorman, Robert Taylor, and Sam Corlett also in lead roles, with the Australian ensemble also including Clarence Ryan, Dan Wyllie, and Jay Ryan, with rising stars Philippa Northeast, Joe Klocek and Kylah Day, among others.

Filming was secured in the NT through Screen Territory’s Production Attraction Incentive Program, which contributed $1.3 million to the production.

The series is produced by award-winning producers Ben Davies, Ian Collie, Rob Gibson, Paul Ranford, Steven McGregor, and Michaeley O’Brien and created by Tim Lee, Ben Davies, and acclaimed Australian Director Greg McLean.

Territory is a joint production between Australian production companies Easy Tiger Production, the company behind the hit series Colin from Accounts, and Jack Irish and Ronde, best known for their work on Outback Ringer and The First Inventors.
