Royal Darwin Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit was returned to a “higher level of care” with less beds, three days after the NT Independent revealed it had been downgraded, but the Australian Salaried Medical Officers’ Federation said it is disappointed the restored level of care was done prior to completing unit upgrades and addressing a staffing crisis, and feared the move was a knee jerk reaction to media coverage.
An email sent by Royal Darwin and Palmerston hospitals women, children and youth division acting co-director Sara-Ann Harn on Saturday April 13 – seen by the NT Independent – stated the executive team collectively determined that the neonatal intensive care unit would be returning to level 5/6 capability effective immediately after a meeting the day before.

(1) RDH Accident and Emergency is a mess! Not enough Doctors and nurses! The wait times are through the roof! And just because you made it though the doors, dont expect a bed straight away!
Meanwhile there is several floors of Health Department Admin staff in the city and at casuarina plaza! What the hell are all these public servants doing???
(2) Darwin Private Hospital is a mess! 1 Nurse for 10 patients! Its not a option!
