Coroner Elisabeth Armitage has handed down 35 recommendations for the NT Government and police to improve their response to the growing epidemic of domestic violence, calling on the government to properly fund services that will prevent the deaths of women and children.
The recommendations follow a more than year-long inquest into the domestic violence deaths of four Indigenous women, Ngeygo Ragurrk, Kumarn Rubuntja, Kumanjayi Haywood and Miss Yunupingu, which examined, amongst other things, their repeated calls for help to authorities or loved ones in the weeks, months and years leading up to their deaths and the failures of the government to properly respond to the issue.
