Motorsport Australia has not issued a permit for cars to compete in the Finke Desert Race following the end of the coronial inquest into the death of Nigel Harris at the 2021 race, an inquest which heard the organisation and the organisers had not acted on any of a scathing safety report’s recommendations.

A statement issued on behalf of long-time Finke Desert Race committee president Antony Yoffa, said that as a result of evidence presented to the inquest, Motorsport Australia had not yet issued a permit for the car section and the organisers were discussing the issue with Motorsport Australia with the support of the Northern Territory Government.

  1. Bunch of red necks, the committee should be replaced with professional responsible members before this events returns – the arrogance is palpable.
