The NT Police operation to locate 44-year-old Brandt Graham, who allegedly jumped the dock at Darwin Local Court on Friday and evaded police for four days, ended in Gunn Tuesday afternoon in a short foot pursuit with the dog unit, while eight others believed to be in his “support network” have also been arrested, police said.
Police issued its first update statement around noon Tuesday, stating that the Fugitive Taskforce was continuing its search operation to locate Graham, who they believed was still in the Greater Darwin area, while maintaining “pressure on Graham and his support network”.
“To date seven people have been arrested during the operation for outstanding warrants, breach of bail and drug-related offences,” Detective Sergeant Tim Healey said shortly after noon.
“One woman, aged 25, remains in custody under investigation for assisting the fugitive.”
He added police were following leads to locate Graham.
Four hours later, NT Police said Graham had been arrested after a grey Mazda carrying him was intercepted in Gunn this afternoon, in the vicinity of Lakeview Boulevard and Chung Wah Terrace.
Graham then allegedly fled on foot, before he was apprehended by the Dog Operations Unit, police said.
The adult male driver of the Mazda was also arrested and expected to be charged this evening, marking eight arrests on top of Graham’s.
“This was an extensive manhunt that involved multiple units and we thank the public for their ongoing assistance,” Sgt Healey said.
The manhunt started Friday morning when Graham allegedly jumped the dock in court and fled G4S security officers before running to the street and disappearing.
Police said they received tips from the public over the long weekend which led to Graham’s arrest Tuesday.
